As a campsite located in the heart of Danish nature, it’s crucial for us to protect and support the green transition. At the same time, we are committed to ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of our employees. Sustainability means a lot to us, which is why we are committed to annual ESG reporting starting in 2023, to further enhance our sustainability efforts. Working with ESG reporting makes sense to us because it highlights areas where we can improve.
We also believe that our guests care about us taking responsibility for our sustainable practices. You can read the ESG report (Danish) for 2023 here (Link).
In the construction and renovation of our toilet buildings, energy efficiency has been a focal point because it’s an area where we can make a significant impact.
Both toilet buildings are equipped with Genvex systems to optimize ventilation, and the roofs are fitted with both solar panels and solar heating tubes to harness renewable solar energy. Additionally, heating is provided by heat pumps, which are less CO2-intensive than the previous oil burners.
Our electricity consumption in 2023 is around 170,000 kWh, with 13% coming from our solar panels, equating to approximately 22,000 kWh.
Part of the electricity consumption is also offset by energy from our solar heating tubes, where the domestic water is heated by the sun. The total effect of our solar heating system is estimated at around 7,200 kWh, which would otherwise have come from the grid. Our water consumption in 2023 is approximately 3,400 cubic meters.
We have a responsibility to use water wisely, especially since Sandskaer Beach has been named the cleanest in Denmark. Our cleaning is therefore done as much as possible with eco-labeled cleaning products and equipment.
New requirements for waste management are being introduced, and our sorting is therefore done in 10 fractions. We ask our guests to sort their waste accordingly. We have designed a waste disposal area where the different fractions are clearly marked, making it easier to participate in waste sorting.
For us, biodiversity means that campers can visit our greenhouses and pick fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, take a walk in the forest and enjoy the fresh air, and swim in some of Denmark’s cleanest waters, alongside porpoises and other marine life. It is therefore our goal to further promote this, in addition to what we are already doing. Among other things, we have pet pigs and horses that, besides living their lives, contribute positively to the growing biodiversity. The horses, in particular, with their large open areas, allow nature to thrive on its own.
We also have areas with herbs, apple trees, and lavender, which are enjoyed by both happy campers and insects, as well as butterfly flowers that also support the development of biodiversity.
We want our guests to participate in the fight for a more sustainable future. For example, we encourage water conservation during showers, with our Aguardio sensors helping to raise awareness of water consumption. Additionally, we have electric car charging stations to support electric vehicle owners, ensuring that driving more environmentally friendly vehicles is not a disadvantage.
Charging can be booked at the reception, and currently, they can be reserved in 4 time slots: 08.00-11.00; 11.00-14.00; 14.00-17.00; and 17.00-08.00. Charging is up to 22KW. If there are available slots after your booking, you are welcome to leave the car for extended charging.
In our ESG report, we summarize the average consumption per guest, per overnight stay. The results for 2023 are as follows:
